Dear readers,

Last weekend there was another one in the books! Carnival, beaches and watching the sunset on the West Point of the island, it was all a big party!

Wonderful beach day

We started last Saturday with a trip to a beach called Cas Abou. This was the very first non-commercial beach for me! And what a difference! Somewhere to be expected, but still, there is nothing better than something that exceeds your expectations! The water is super blue and the surroundings very beautiful. Unfortunately, there was not much shade to be found, which meant that you had to rub in well! And then there is certainly room for an ST to Reina and Teuni, because they knew how to handle the sunscreen. Fortunately we survived the warm beach day without being burned (you see, we learn it) it was time for a party! And this with carnival on the horizon.

Carnival on Curaçao

Because on Sunday the Gran Marcha (the large procession of 6.5 kilometers) was run. I have never been to the carnival party myself, because we don't really know that in Groningen. So to be able to do this the first time in Curaçao was quite an experience! There were on average 30 different groups who participated in the parade and all with different themes. I've been watching my eyes!

We stood among the locals and it was very busy, but that did not spoil the atmosphere at all. It was very nice and we were even allowed to have a picture with the people who participated in the parade! After the parade we had dinner together at Wilhelminaplein and the idea came to go bowling. But this was not a very good plan! Since nothing was open on carnival evening and everyone was free to celebrate carnival. But I was not allowed to complain, because I was allowed to sit in the back of a pick-up truck that night and drive over the Juliana Bridge. And that view at night was more than worth the drive!

Tour Westpunt

On Monday it became a whole journey instead of a ride, because it had to be driven to the West Point and this was a short drive from Saliña. After emptying the stopover, AKA the supermarket, and stocking everything up for the barbecue, the survival trip to the secluded beach of Playa Chiki continued.

What was a thing, however, was the tire of our dear Eva, since it was not allowed to survive the trip… Because a Kia Picanto is not very suitable for the off-road roads of Curaçao compared to the Pick-up truck.

But we made it! Settled and all, finally time for swimming! Because do not forget that it is around 30 degrees on average here during the day and that the heat here can sometimes rise to your head. Fortunately we were able to swim to a cave to cool off there and, just like Jelte, as a small child so happily, we do a game of pebbles. Sometimes you had to be careful where you stood, because there are all stones on the bottom and in some places also coral! And it appears that the orange coral can actually hurt!

After being dried up, it was time to move on to the lighthouse on the West Point to finally watch the sunset. It was very romantic, but bring a sweater for the next time (Tip from Charlotte, who did have one with it), because it was a bit fresh. Fortunately the boys were already busy making a campfire after the sun went down. That way we could roast marshmallows after the barbecue and watch the stars from the pick-up truck! I say what a dream weekend, right?

Aye!
