Bon Bini!

I have been on the sunny island of Curaçao for almost three weeks now! In these weeks I found out that the world is a little bit different here than in the Netherlands! The locals speak a little Dutch here, but mainly Papiamentu and this is very similar to Spanish. Unfortunately I never had any Spanish and I don't understand it at all ... Shopping was therefore a thing, because asking an employee where the pancake mix lay, well that was just as difficult. But otherwise the locals are very friendly people! They almost always greet and laugh! Just don't forget that it is 30 degrees on average here and that everything here, how to say, is a bit slow and slow.

Above you see Reina (who moved with me) and I who go to Villa Azul in the evening.

Moving out of student house

In addition, in these three weeks I have already been allowed to move an extra time from the Hugenholtzweg to Villa Azul. This is because you have no idea where you will end up in the Netherlands and it is always a matter of waiting! Fortunately, Roel and Marrit (our new landlords) were quickly ready to catch us! And I am now completely satisfied with my beautiful room and my lovely roommates! We have already visited several beaches such as Mambo Beach and Jan Thiel. And when I tell the guests at the ABC Resort (where I do an internship in Curaçao), they all say; those are the commercial beaches, you shouldn't go there! And maybe true, but I have five months to discover every beach here so let's get started easily.

Do an internship on Curaçao at a resort

As I just mentioned, I am doing an internship on Curaçao at the beautiful ABC Resort! Here I can spend the next six months dealing with very different and diverse tasks under the supervision of Sjors and Josephine. It is a relatively small resort AKA very cozy! Almost all guests at the resort know each other and at happy hours and barbecues it is a big party. Well I have to admit that the average age of the guests in this season is relatively high (say 65+) and that all young people, as they call themselves, are always aware of everything. The daily walk around the resort usually takes a while, because all stories must of course be shared.

But the biggest advantage of my internship on Curaçao, Simba! Simba is secretly a bit of my favorite cat here! He is the most relaxed cat ever and I understand that, because he is already of age ... He loves to hug and prefers to always lie on the laptop sleeve, after which the cover is always covered with hair! In addition, we have more different types of animals at the resort, such as dogs, sometimes chickens (and therefore chicks), a family of iguanas and a turtle! Well they are not often found at the resort, but if you look well, you will certainly find them.

Almost weekend!

And now that it is Friday again, it is almost time for the weekend! And this weekend carnival is coming! The biggest celebrated party here on the island and something you should have seen according to the locals! I'm curious!

Aye!

Not all accommodations on Curaçao have standard linen. That is why we offer this service. That saves a lot of space in your suitcase ;-)

The linen consists of a pillow, bottom sheet and duvet cover. On Curaçao we do not sleep under blankets because of the heat. No towels are included.

If you use our pick-up service, you will receive your linen directly at Hato, otherwise you can pick it up at our office.

Calling each other on Curaçao is very expensive. That is why a local SIM card is definitely recommended.

You put this SIM card in your phone, but you keep your normal WhatsApp number. This way you can call and app with the home front & friends via WhatsApp as you are used to.

You call each other on Curaçao at the local rate with your new local telephone number.

If you have a pick-up service, you will receive your SIM card directly at Hato, otherwise you can pick it up at our office.
