Save Tips on Curaçao

Savings tips on Curacao

You may think that Curaçao is a cheaper country than European countries. Unfortunately, because life on Curaçao is a lot more expensive! You pay less VAT here, but the cost price is simply a lot higher. In this blog we want to give you a few saving tips during your stay on Curaçao so that you have more money left over for fun expenses. Are you curious about the costs on Curaçao for the livelihood? We have also listed this for you.

1- Go to local supermarkets!

On Curaçao you have many supermarkets and also full of Dutch products. For example, you have an Albert Heijn (Van der Tweel it is called here). The disadvantage of these supermarkets is that you are completely empty when you have paid. A good saving tip for Curaçao is therefore to visit local supermarkets. The largest supermarket and also one of the cheapest supermarkets in Curaçao is the Mangusa Hypermarket! This supermarket is really worth a visit.

2- Visit Happy Hours

Going out is part of doing an internship on Curaçao, but this can also be done cheaper. Namely visiting Happy Hours! You then get two for the price of 1 or, for example, you get 1 for half price. You always have a cheap drink to grab and that is of course a bonus. Want to know when those happy hours are and where? We have made an overview of the best for you Happy Hours on Curacao.

3- Freeze your food or cook with several people

It can sometimes be difficult to cook yourself a meal and then eat it all. So a good tip is to freeze the leftover food for next time. Another option is also to cook with your housemates because that way you can cook the exact amount and you often don't have to throw anything away. In addition, it is also extra cozy because you can all eat at the same time. Hoppa, two birds with one stone!

4- Visit beaches on Curaçao for free

One of the nice saving tips for Curaçao is also this one, visiting free beaches. On many beaches on Curaçao you have to pay for entrance or if you want a bed, etc. There is nothing wrong with this in itself because the beaches are kept clean with that money. But if you want to live cheaply on Curaçao, it is useful to visit free beaches. A few nice free beaches are Daaibooi Bay, Grote Knip, Kleine Knip and Playa Jeremy.

5- Cheap dining out

Okay, we can imagine that you don't feel like cooking every night and that you also want to eat out. Fortunately, some places can be very cheap. You will end up at local eateries or truki pans along the road. The big advantage is that the food there is delicious and that you really go home with a full belly. So get in your car and look for a tent on the street!

Not all accommodations on Curaçao have standard linen. That is why we offer this service. That saves a lot of space in your suitcase ;-)

The linen consists of a pillow, bottom sheet and duvet cover. On Curaçao we do not sleep under blankets because of the heat. No towels are included.

If you use our pick-up service, you will receive your linen directly at Hato, otherwise you can pick it up at our office.

Calling each other on Curaçao is very expensive. That is why a local SIM card is definitely recommended.

You put this SIM card in your phone, but you keep your normal WhatsApp number. This way you can call and app with the home front & friends via WhatsApp as you are used to.

You call each other on Curaçao at the local rate with your new local telephone number.

If you have a pick-up service, you will receive your SIM card directly at Hato, otherwise you can pick it up at our office.
